Description:Based in Washington, DC and reporting to President & COO, the Vice
President of People will be responsible for the achievement of excellence in all People
practices and the company’s dedication to sharing the sweetlife with all associates and
team members as well as guests. On a daily basis, the Vice President of People will be a
leader and steward of the company culture, working to make sweetgreen the #1 place to work.
It is critical that the incoming Vice President of People be committed to supporting an
employee-oriented, high performance environment that emphasizes empowerment, quality,
productivity, goal attainment, fun, and sustaining the ongoing growth and development of a
superior workforce. As the company will be experiencing an accelerated growth plan,
it is imperative that this individual be able to rapidly create and scale the People systems to
fit this timeline.
The Vice President of People will have 2 direct reports: Director of Training and
Human Resources Generalist.
Specifically, the Vice President of People will be responsible for:
• Embracing sweetgreen’s core values while strategically creating long-range people plans
that align with the growth goals and objectives of the organization.
• Devising a comprehensive recruitment strategy and coaching sweetgreen on internal and
external recruiting techniques.
• Collaborating with the Operations and Head Coach teams to maximize recruiting and
talent management efforts.
• Enhancing communication and efficiency in all areas involving people systems and practices.
• Offering expertise in the areas of policies, benefits, leadership development, and
training, and acting as the conduit of communication while sharing best practices across
sweetgreen.
• Reviewing current people materials with a continued focus on being the employer of
choice for all employment levels, creating relevant materials that resonate with ideal
candidates.
• Identifying and deploying a career path that makes top-level positions attainable
by all team members.
• Providing structure, content, key insights, and development suggestions for quarterly
meetings and monthly Head Coach huddles.
• Capturing and analyzing statistical recruiting data and best practices in order to
provide guidance to be competitive in each market.
• Assisting with and providing, as needed, recruiting and people support for the home office
staff.
Requirements:The ideal candidate possesses:
• A minimum of ten years experience in a human resources role with a strong foundation in
building human capital systems in a multi-unit environment in the restaurant, hospitality, retail,
or service sectors.
• A proven track record in developing employee relations, retention, managing performance,
organizational development, reward and recognition systems, and recruitment.
• A Bachelor’s degree with additional education viewed favorably.
• Belief in and passion for the sweetlife and sweetgreen’s core values.
• The maturity to embrace ambiguity and ability to adapt according to the market and
continuing innovation of sweetgreen.
• Strong leadership behaviors, approachability, and a reputation as an unwavering role
model.
• A deep comprehension of what makes people tick and an underlying sense of compassion and
human understanding.
• Understanding of recruiting metrics and ability to articulate the findings of research
and data as well as use the data to architect future plans.
• Personal characteristics reflective of sweetgreen: high-energy, self-motivated, positive
attitude, service-oriented, flexible, fun-loving personality, and ethical with a high degree
of integrity.
