We have a need for talented lifeguards! Join us at the Valparaiso YMCA as a lifeguard! Work as little as 4 hours per week or up to 29 hours! Evenings 3:30-9:30 pm and weekends available. YMCA benefits include: •Free YMCA membership and discount for family membership •Child Watch hours are available free of charge for staff children. POSITION SUMMARY: Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Preference given to applicants that hold a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. •Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required. •Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. •Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. •Performs chemical testing when not guarding , as required, and takes appropriate action. •Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff. •Attends all staff meetings and in-service training. Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: •Minimum age of 16. •Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen. •Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent. •Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. •Ability to demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
